The Tiger - The Original
This one just stares into your soul.
This painting is called The Tiger.
It's 36 inches tall by 36 inches wide. It's an acrylic on canvas. It's framed wire-backed. Ready to hang and comes with a protective varnish over the top.
This is another piece where I included the circle of life.
In this one, I just darkened the outsides with a little bit of green. This painting, The Tiger, is also from the life series.
The Life series started out with mostly just animals from the ocean.
But this one, I started branching out.
I was hearing stories about how the Tigers' range is diminishing worldwide.
All of these pieces are a call to action for people to protect what we've got.
So, again, inside the circle is full-color and then outside the circle.
It's a different scale of color.
Tigers are so beautiful and their stripes are awesome.
It's a lot to work with as an artist and their eyes are absolutely arresting and it was really fun to work on these eyes because the way that the light bounces off all the different elements inside of their eyes.
It's really fun to work with and they've got all this fur, so there are these little tiny hairs that you can use as spots where you can bring in detail.
This piece is powerful.
This one just stares into your soul.
Life Series:
I’ve been making art that focuses on sea life since I moved to Southern California in 2011. At that point I switched from snowboarding to surfing and began spending lots of time in the ocean. There I saw pelicans flying, dolphins swimming, and the awe inspiring beauty of every moment being on the water. As I got more into surfing I began to read magazines and books about it, and that led me to the book “Kook.” It’s the writer's story about his journey of learning to surf, and his adventures as a beginner surfer in Baja, Mexico. There he learned of the importance of mangrove forests, healthy breeding waters, protected beaches and safe oceans for dolphins and whales. He learned about overfishing, and the way that unconscious travel industry practices are harming the natural wildlife and how over time it will have a devastating effect. After reading this and learning of the situation, I made it my mission to spread the word through my art. These pieces speak to the challenges our oceans and ocean life are facing.
