Artist Statement

My art is about the ways we connect.  Every painting is an effort to find common ground with the viewer.  Whether it be through light and shadow, color, or the message in the work, the focus is commonalities.  Artwork transcends borders, skin color and material differences.  It can be a tool for Good, and that’s my aim.

  • Light and Shadow are a main focus of mine.  Light and shadow are key to an image.  It’s the first thing that we see when we observe a 3D object.  It’s how we can recognize a friend walking a ways away, or how we see out of the corner of our eye and know exactly who’s there.  Light and shadow build our understanding of form.  These things are essential, and they fall and reflect on all of us in exactly the same way, no matter our background.

Color is something all humans can relate to.  The color palette is a spectrum that has infinite variation to it.  Color creates effects in us in terms of emotion and energy, and combinations work in different ways to achieve different effects.  Color is a metaphor for life on this planet in terms of the variety and beauty.  All of this and more go into my work.

In terms of the messages I want to speak to the highest good in all of us.  I strive to speak about ethics, morals and values that unite.  I want my work to fight against injustice and negativity but I don’t want to focus there.  Like attracts like.  If we want more good, we need to visualize it, portray it and then bring it forth into reality.  These underlying messages are the backbone to my work and are central to my mission as an artist.

My paintings come in different shapes, sizes and styles, but have a common thread throughout.  My work speaks to the highest forms of humanity, what’s good in all of us.  My work visualizes a bright and colorful reality where all are equal and beauty is fostered and stuarded into being.  My painting is about that common energy which we all feel and understand on a deeper level.  It’s all about our human connection.

These days when working on canvas you will find his creative flow is in our connection with the natural world in terms of environmental awareness, flow state, and the relationship between color and process in his creative flow.  His work is an explorative journey through life and philosophy of what it means to be a human living in this world in this period of time.  Sometimes it can be very literal, sometimes it can be very abstract.  His fine art covers the ground of drawing, painting, multimedia, and everything in between.

Fine Art has a whole different personal interaction as the artist as well as with the viewer.  The scale is different, and the setting in which the art is viewed is different.  The Fine Art experience takes place within the walls of a gallery or a residence.  It’s on a much more human scale, and we feel like we can get closer to it, and in that way we connect with it differently.  It can have a more intimate feeling and personal touch to it.  While murals connect on the macro level, Fine Art connects on a micro level which gives it its own special advantages.  Both forms of art are valuable to Taylor and will continue to be weapons of choice for the Southern California based American visual artist.

Artist Bio

Taylor Gallegos is a California-based artist from Colorado. Taylor received a BFA from Colorado State University, spent a semester abroad in Tuscany, Italy, and now is a painter specializing in murals, studio painting and live art. In general, his work focuses on unity, connection, love, and creativity.

  • As a professional artist his work has ranged from large-scale murals to portraits to abstracts in the studio to live art, mostly in the fields of painting and drawing with acrylics and oils. His work with live art has taken him on tour with musicians and has developed into a business venture in the world of weddings called Live Wedding Art. In recent years his studio art has developed a focus on environmental and philosophical concepts stretching into the Life series and through the Meditations and Abstractions series’.

Taylor is currently living and working in Southern California and is originally from Boulder, Colorado. He received a Bachelor of Fine Art from Colorado State University, and during that time studied abroad in Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy.

Taylor has been painting and drawing his whole life. This passion has developed into his current work as a custom muralist, creating large scale wall murals in different styles, for different intentions and causes.  This work brings his skill set together with individual people and organizations to bring visions and ideas to life for all to see.  His brush is the instrument that plays the tunes of people’s imaginations.

As a high school student, he began creating custom drawings for friends and family, mostly of sports stars. During his time as an art student in college, he started making some spending money creating custom paintings for people, portraits of rock stars, and recreating photos. He did his first mural right after college for a local restaurant and loved the process, although it was a huge undertaking. That restaurant had a handful of locations so they hired him to decorate all of their interiors. It was a great experience that set the groundwork for lots of future paintings.

Thanks to a muralist mentor, he had the opportunity to dive into the world of mural painting more and more.
