It takes so many steps to reach your peak, but every single one of them is as important as another. It's easy to focus on getting to the top, but you can't get there by focusing on that. We have to stay present in our journey and be here with the step that we're on.

The Creative Process

The creative process is unique for every artist from all backgrounds and crafts.  Every creation has a different flow to it whether it's a painting, a piece of music, a sculpture or a website.  Taylor is no different.

Taylor’s perspective on the creative process is similar to doing a puzzle.  At first you just start to see the edges, the parameters of the idea.  Then one can start to see general colors that go together, and some lines that start to make sense.  Little by little the image begins to take shape.  The process begins to flow and seemingly pick up speed.  Toward the end it almost seems like the pieces are finding their own way into their correct places.  The last 10% of a project is always the most exciting.  That’s when all the elements snap into place, the higher level elements come into being.  This is what all the hard work was about.

This organic growth process happens time and time again, every mural, every painting on canvas, every drawing, podcast, blog post, etc.  They all follow a similar arc.  Every work of art, large or small that you see from coming Taylor’s direction goes through the same pathways, has the same ebbs and flows, and gets to a similar level of development.  That’s the creative process.  That’s the organic growth path of Taylor’s art.

Creating Your Custom Art

  • INITIAL CONVERSATION

This is a similar process as with the Murals. It begins with an email with a description of your project. Please including the size of the painting you’re hoping for, a brief description of the space it will be hanging, and creative direction for the artwork. Feel free to include images of any stylistic influences like artwork or other artwork that you like.

  • PRICING

With all the general information gathered I can provide a general estimate. At this point we can discuss over email or phone and come to an agreement for a final price. There is a minimum price that a piece will be done for that is loosely based on the sizing desired. But from there it’s up to the client. The price can be minimal or a lot more. Taylor can create a piece of art for a small price, or a large budget. For a smaller price tag the art will be great. For a larger price tag the artwork will be out of this world. It’s really up to you as to how much you want to spend.

  • CONTRACT AND DEPOSIT

In my proposal for work I will include a contract. If you would like to move forward with the design phase for the work, a signed contract will need to be completed along with the design deposit. The design deposit can vary based on the size of the project, but typically the deposit is about 10% of the overall price. Once these are received I will begin work on designs for your artwork and we can schedule out the painting phase.

  • DESIGN PROCESS AND SKETCH

We begin the design process with a clear description of the concept, imagery and feel or mood of the piece. This is done through a Q and A aimed at collaboratively brainstorming and sharing visual ideas and images that might inspire the artwork. From there, I go to work and begin sketching the imagery.

I’ll then email the rough sketch to be critiqued. At this point, some things might need to be moved, changed, adjusted in different ways. I’ll do any changes and then send it back for approval.

With client approval the design becomes a visual roadmap, but not an exact literal representation of what the finished work of art will look like. Having a clear design direction is important for a successful project. However, the creative process is what it is and will adjust and change according to the logistics of the situation.

  • PAINTING

The artwork is painted and will come together along the desired timelines. Taylor will be documenting the progression as things go along. Often times timelapses will be created of the work and posted on his Instagram story. As the painting comes together photos will be shared with the client to see if everything is on track, and to see if any details are in need of shifting or changing.

All adjustments will be taken into consideration, final changes will be made, and then upon completion the images will be shared with the client. Upon approval of the final piece, the art will get a final layer of protective varnish and the piece will be readied for shipment.

  • FINAL PAYMENT

A final payment of the full remaining balance is due upon shipment/delivery of the artwork. For paintings on canvas, client is responsible for S&H, which will be shared after artwork is shipped and on its way.
